Spring is a time of change, and the happenings at Horizons are no exception! Our classrooms are bustling with innovative new programs focused on STEM learning while parents are taking part in English classes and job training programs. Our workforce continues to grow its skills, most recently by launching a professional development series designed to deepen the team’s competencies in trauma-informed practices. New parent workshops are available to families living in shelter, Playspaces are reopening in many locations and there is much to rejoice as we plan our in-person Annual Spring Gala! Starting Early with STEM Exploration When The Hawk Foundation STEM lab opened in the Edgerley Family Horizons Center last year, the plans for exactly how the space would be used were only conceptual. Now that the team at Horizons is settling in, programming is coming online, teachers are embracing new curriculum, and the vision for children to develop problem-solving skills that will serve them in the 21st century is becoming reality. Stride by stride, father and son run for Horizons “We were able to visit Horizons in advance of last year’s Boston Marathon; we learned a great deal and were most impressed,” shared Kenneth Williams, veteran runner of over 70 marathons worldwide. Together with his son Ken, they’ve joined Horizons’ marathon team for the second year in a row as a way to give back to children and families facing homelessness. <Read more>
